Rev. Bruce Epperly Ph.D. Biographical Information
Bruce Epperly has served as a congregational pastor and university chaplain, university and seminary professor and administrator, and is a prolific author and lectionary commentator. With over forty years joining pulpit and classroom, Bruce recently retired after serving eight years as Senior Pastor of South Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Centerville, MA and has relocated from Cape Cod to the Washington DC suburbs to be closer to his family. Ordained in the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he is the author of over sixty books in theology, spirituality, healing and wholeness, scripture, and clergy wellbeing, including The Jubilee Years: Embracing Clergy Retirement; A Center in a Cyclone: Twentieth Century Clergy Selfcare; Francis of Assisi: From Privilege to Activism; Mystics in Action: 12 Saints for Today; Prophetic Healing: Howard Thurman's Vision of Contemplative Activism; 101 Soul Seeds for Grandparents Working for a Better World; and Process Theology: Embracing Adventure with God. His recently completed 101 Soul Seeds for a Joyful Retirement is due to be released this Fall.
In his retirement, he is teaching at Wesley Theological Seminary and working on three new books, The Prophet Amos Speaks to America, The Elephant is Running: Progressive Christianity and the Challenge of Religious Pluralism, and We Are All Mystic: How Mysticism Can Change Your Life and Change the World . He is married to retired pastor Rev. Dr. Katherine Gould Epperly and is an actively involved grandparent of two elementary school grandchildren with whom he lives.
